글로벌 디비 회사로 잘 알려진 오라클이 "썬"을 인수 한다는 공식적인 발표가 있었습니다. 그것은 오라클이 발표 하는것 보다 "썬" 공식 홈페이지 http://www.sun.com 에 메인에 올려져 있습니다. 한번 확인 해 보시기 바랍니다.
오라클 공식 홈페이지에는 다음과 같이 올라와 있군요..
Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ: ORCL) and Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: JAVA) announced today they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Oracle will acquire Sun common stock for $9.50 per share in cash. The transaction is valued at approximately $7.4 billion, or $5.6 billion net of Sun’s cash and debt. “We expect this acquisition to be accretive to Oracle’s earnings by at least 15 cents on a non-GAAP basis in the first full year after closing. We estimate that the acquired business will contribute over $1.5 billion to Oracle’s non-GAAP operating profit in the first year, increasing to over $2 billion in the second year. This would make the Sun acquisition more profitable in per share contribution in the first year than we had planned for the acquisitions of BEA, PeopleSoft and Siebel combined,” said Oracle President Safra Catz.
“The acquisition of Sun transforms the IT industry, combining best-in-class enterprise software and mission-critical computing systems,” said Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. “Oracle will be the only company that can engineer an integrated system – applications to disk – where all the pieces fit and work together so customers do not have to do it themselves. Our customers benefit as their systems integration costs go down while system performance, reliability and security go up.”
There are substantial long-term strategic customer advantages to Oracle owning two key Sun software assets: Java and Solaris. Java is one of the computer industry’s best-known brands and most widely deployed technologies, and it is the most important software Oracle has ever acquired. Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle’s fastest growing business, is built on top of Sun’s Java language and software. Oracle can now ensure continued innovation and investment in Java technology for the benefit of customers and the Java community.
The Sun Solaris operating system is the leading platform for the Oracle database, Oracle’s largest business, and has been for a long time. With the acquisition of Sun, Oracle can optimize the Oracle database for some of the unique, high-end features of Solaris. Oracle is as committed as ever to Linux and other open platforms and will continue to support and enhance our strong industry partnerships.

The Board of Directors of Sun Microsystems has unanimously approved the transaction. It is anticipated to close this summer, subject to Sun stockholder approval, certain regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

출처: http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/018363나스닥에서 주당 $9.5달러 정도 하면 약 56억달러에 인수를 한다고 되어 있네요(썬의 부채 포함 74억). 썬의 자산은 "솔라리스"와 "자바"가 대표적인 브랜드라고 하겠지요..물론 썬 서버도 있겠습니다. 이렇게 되면 썬 솔라리스에서 오라클 디비가 올라가는 아주 환상적인 콤비네이션이 이루어지겠네요. 각각 다른 회사에서 지원 하던것이 한 회사에서 같은 정책으로 지원을 하게 되면 훨씬 유리하겠지요..
사실, 전 개인적으로 1998년에 썬 솔라리스6을 처음 접하면서 유닉스 운영체제를 접하게 되었습니다. 어찌보면 그땐 리눅스보다 솔라리스가 더 많이 알려져서 대웅연수원에서 거의 2달 가량을 자격증 시험까지 보면서 공부한 적이 있었습니다. 그럴때 아..이런 운영체제도 있구나라고 생각했던 시절이 있었고, 거대한 서버시장과 자바 그리고 솔라리스라는 운영체제를 가지고 있는 썬마이크로 시스템이 오라클에 인수된다는 기사는 왠지 지금까지 썬에 대한 신뢰감이랄까 하는 부분이 조금은 떨어지는 것 같습니다.
물론 기업 경영이라는게 어려우니까 그렇지만 많은 사랑을 받은 썬이 이렇게 또 잊혀져간다는 사실이 아쉽기만 합니다..아무래도 인수가 되면 썬이라는 브랜드를 그대로 가져간다고 해도 그 이면에는 늘 오라클이라는 배경이 있으므로 예전과 같지는 않을꺼 같다는 생각이 듭니다.
약 20년 이상 파트너 관계로 지내다가 인수가 된다고 하니 아마도 썬 CEO도 그리 마음이 편치는 않을꺼 같다는 생각이 들고 많은 전세계 직원들도 약간의 동요가 있지 않을까 싶네요,.

"썬 마이크로시스템즈"는 유닉스 운영체제 "솔라리스가" 있으며 "자바" 개발언어가 있습니다..그럼 이제는 "오라클"은 디비 회사에서 "운영체제" "개발언어" "서버" 등 다양한 군(群)을 갖춘 회사로 거듭 날꺼 같군요..
물론 인수 합병 (M&A)는 그것이 약이 될지 독이 될지는 지켜봐야 하는 것이지만 이제는 대세는 거대한 자본에 의하여 자주 인수합병이 되면서 자정이 되는 느낌이 듭니다.. 결국 힘센 강자만이 살아 남는 "정글의 법칙"이 그대로 적용이 되는 것이지요..
국내 보안업계의 고질적인 문제점도 너무 많은 업체가 난립한다는 지적이 있습니다. 그러다보니 영세성을 면치 못하고 난립하게되는 것이지요..아마도 조만간 그런 바람이 보안업계에도 불지 않을까 하는 생각이 있지만 일단 지켜 봐야겠습니다. 최근에 모회사가 인수합병(M&A)를 추진하고 있어 눈길을 받고 있지만요.
아침 출근하자마자 "썬"이 지난번 IBM에서 넘본다는 기사를 보다가 갑자기 "오라클"에서 인수했다는 소식이 들리기에 포스팅 해 보았습니다...
시스코도 "서버"시장에 진입을 한다고 하고 글로벌 디비쪽에 절대강자인 오라클이 "썬"을 인수함으로 인하여 국내에서는 어떤 변화가 있을지 아니면 별다른 영향이 없을지는 조금 더 지켜봐야겠습니다..부디 "약"이 될지 "독"이 될지. 좋은 선택이었기를 바랄뿐입니다. @엔시스

90년말에서 2000년초, 예전엔 정말 SUN 이면 최고였는데 말이죠..^^
최근 많이 흔들리는듯 싶더니 오라클과 함께 더 잘되면 좋겠군요.
XBOX의 halo 라는게임에 ORACLE이 있는데요, 그 오라클은 기계임에도
인간과 세상 모두를 지배하려는 정말 신탁의 속성을 지녔지요, 반면에 MATRIX에
나오는 oracle 도 속성은 조금 다르지만 비슷하구요..
ㅎㅎ 정말 이젠 오라클이 신탁을 내릴 수 있을지도 모르겠습니다.
그러게 말입니다. 90년대 말이었을때 한창 유닉스 솔라리스를 썬 스팍스테이션으로 교육을 많이 했었습니다. 지금은 x86버전등이 있고 리눅스에서도 밀리는게 아닌가 하는생각을 합니다만 아직도 미들웨어 같은 부분에서는 솔라리스가 많이 사용되고 있더군요.,
다음 첫화면에 노출되어 있어 타고 들어왔습니다. 축하드립니다.^^
인수합병을 잘하면 약이지만 잘못하면 독이 될 수 있어 정말 신중해야 하는 것이 M&A인 듯 합니다.

네..맞습니다. 인수합병(M&A)을 잘못하면 오히려 안하느니만 못한 경우도 있겠지요. 아무튼 전세계적인 이슈이니만큼 많은 사람들의 당분간 관심사가 되리라 생각합니다..

어제 알게 되었는데, 개인적인 느낌으로는 긍정적인 느낌을 받았습니다.
앞으로 오라클+썬의 행보를 지켜봐야 알겠지만,
긍정적이고 좋은 쪽으로 흘러갈 것 같다는 느낌에 조금은 기분이 좋군요.
네 맞습니다..그것이 인수한 회사나 인수된 회사 모두 윈윈 할수 있는 베스트 시나리오죠..

네..반갑습니다..맞습니다.그렇긴 한데 어떤 분들은 mysql 을 걱정 하는분들도 있더군요. 결국 오라클이라는 db 브랜딩에서 오히려 차별성이 없어지는 것은 아닌가 하는 생각도 듭니다..
IT시장에 있어서 일대 큰 변화가 생기지 않을까 생각되네요.
MS SQL은 큰일났군요 ㅎㅎ
조금 더 지켜 봐야겠습니다...
